Mazda Motor Corp. (7261:JP) plans to install so-called smart throttles-incorporating brake overrides-in all of its future models, reported Automotive News, citing automaker officials in Japan.

The move appears to be a purely preemptive measure, or an added safety feature, as the Japanese automaker is not aware of any instances of unintended acceleration, a company spokesman in Japan told AN.

Can't wait for the Mazda2 to be released in the States? Good news -- it's coming sooner than expected.

Cars.com reports, "Fans of the diminutive 2011 Mazda2 will be happy to learn that Mazda will move up the launch date from late summer to early summer this year." The small, sporty hatchback has been available overseas since 2007.
